But here's what makes Book World stand out from the rest (in not a good way): there are no chairs! What bookstore doesn't have chairs?! I sat on the floor to sample a book to see if I wanted to buy it, but then the clerk told me it's "company policy" that customers can't sit on the floor.

As in most stores, I'm initially greeted by staff and asked if I need help finding anything. In most cases, when I decline, the response is a nod and a smile then the employee returning to their current task. Here, the response is usually a look of disgust. Of course, you'll only encounter these attitudes if you're food and drink free. If the staff notice you entering the store with any food items or beverages, you'll be asked (or more like demanded in a hostile manner) to discard those items before you continue into the store. This is the only book store in the area I have encountered this rule. Even at B&N and BAM you can sip a coffee while browsing books. Not at Book World however.

Book World is one of the few non-clothing retailers in South Park Mall. Unfortunately, this doesn't mean it's worth a look if you happen to be shopping in this area. Most times I have shopped here I've been met with borderline hostile employees while looking at a moderate sized selection of literature.

As for the selection, you'll find plenty of options when it comes to novels. From mystery to humor, there's a decent variety of quick buys to pick up for your reading needs. Comic book enthusiasts and those looking for a more specific purchase may want to look elsewhere. Overall, the selection is decent for the size of this store, as most of the competing retailers have much larger locations.

P.S. Teens and young adults seem to be, from my observations, a target for bad employee attitudes more often than older customers.

As a retailer in a mall that seems to have endless financial issues, it's disappointing this store has such significant customer service issues. If the staff would be generally more appreciative of customer interest, and maybe allow a coffee here and there, I would give it a much better rating.

Hostile Environment, Decent Selection

The selection is meh—I'd say about a quarter of the selection you'd get at Barnes & Noble (at best). Bestsellers are, however, neatly laid out and displayed prominently inside the entrance.
