While I'm thankful for the physicians, nurses and caretakers that work for Genesis, I'm not nearly as pleased with the method Geneis is using to bill their patients. It is a trial in mental anguish. I have received 3 bills for the same simple lab procedure. The explanation is that one is for the lab physician, one is for the facilities, and one is for the pathologist. All three phases are manged by Genesis Health Systems. The separate bill from the pathologist hasn't even been processed by insurance. *I* must call Genesis to request that, as if the group processing the pathology invoices doesn't have a resource for getting my insurance information. The pathology bill, btw, was delivered 122 days after my procedure. I wish this was my only complaint. All other bills are divided between Genesis Health & Genesis Medical. Both invoices look identical. They both use the same 800 number if you have questions. However, not one person can tell you how much you owe in total. You may receive an automated call, asking *you* to call Geneis back regarding an outstanding bill. If you return that call immediately, frequently Genesis can't tell you why you received the automated call. Infuriating. If you make arrangements to pay outstanding medical bills on a monthly basis, they will not show any of your past activity on a statement - nothing reflecting what was owed, and what you've paid. Every invoice is an individual invoice. Unlike any other business, no statements from Genesis (either 'Medical' or 'Health') reflect a total balance. Explanations of services provided on bills are void of detailed information. Genesis employs several 3rd-party firms in the operations of their facilities - including their physicians - so that while you may have been treated in a Genesis facility, by a physician with a Genesis lab coat, and working for and by Genesis, you will be billed by a corporation you've never heard of for your treatment. Here's a great story. I was so frustrated with my own inability to understand my bills, and Genesis's staff to explain them by phone, that I asked, "where can I go to have my bills explained to me in person?" I was sent to the Genesis West campus facility, Pavilion 2, Ste. 2600. When I arrived and showed the bill in question, the first response was, "Oh, that's not one of ours." Let me explain - the bill, for which I had the question, has an 800 number for questions. That is the number I called, and used the account number and reference number of the bill to ask where I should physically go to ask questions in person, and yet, I'm told when I arrive that I'm at the 'Genesis Medical' billing office, instead of the 'Genesis Health' billing office. Other staff, by phone, have told me to visit the actual Genesis Health facility where I received treatment to ask questions on billing. You think this is a long post? I have more. The illogical nature of everything attributable to the methods employed by this 'medical system' require volumes to document and explain. It's more than any patient should be put through.
